Congratulations Rod Filsell!

Congratulations to Rod Filsell, a client of nb&a rehab, who was recognised by the judges with a WorkCover SA 2011 Return to Work Achievement Judges Commendation Award.

In March 2010 Rod Filsell, a Mechanical Fitter with Thiess Pty Ltd at Prominent Hill, was standing between a tow truck and an excavator bucket disconnecting the cable linking the two. The bucket rolled backwards causing excessive tension in the cable and the cable to snap, fling back and hit Rod, lifting him off the ground and throwing him 5 metres into the air.  He was hit by the tow-sling and sustained a fracture to his left humerus, femur fracture, fractured fibula, femoral artery injury, subsequent compartment syndrome of his lower left leg and radial nerve palsy in his left arm. A goal Rod set himself was to walk again unaided before his young son did – a goal he achieved! 

From the outset, Rod participated in the treatment and rehabilitation process with enthusiasm and determination. Never at any time did Rod doubt he would return to work, in what capacity he was unsure, however he knew he would return. Rod returned to work with Thiess Pty Ltd on 8 March 2011 in maintenance planning.
