SESSION 1: What is current best practice treatment for back pain, and why are we not following these principles and reducing the epidemic of persistent back pain?
This presentation will look at what is considered gold standard interventions, what can be of use when chosen judiciously, what has no evidence but is regularly utilised and what can actually harm yet is often prescribed. Most importantly despite advances in knowledge acute back pain recurs in 33–80 per cent of cases and often progresses to become chronic. Jeremy will be discussing why we keep ignoring the evidence.
Presenter: Jeremy Hobbs, musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapist and co-owner of The Second Visit, an international teaching and mentoring company.
Jeremy has been a physiotherapist since 1998 and completed his Masters in Sports and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in 2005. SESSION 2: Why low wellbeing is a hidden cost to your organisation and how to tackle it.
Join us as we explore how, as leaders, you can take active steps to support your own mental health and those around you.
Scientific data from over 20,000 Australians, collected by Be Well Co (part of the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute), reveals that two in three people have low wellbeing or are in distress. That’s 17 million Australians who are not coping and are at-risk of mental illness. That’s two in three people within our workplaces and communities who are often not supported until they face more serious problems.
Be Well Co exists to take to the world the leading evidence and skills to build mental health and wellbeing. Whether we face challenges in or out of the workplace, we all have a duty to support those in our care. As a leader, you too know that it is a business imperative given the proven links between wellbeing and talent retention, attraction, performance and innovation. Don’t miss this important conversation!
Presenters: Co-founder Monique Newberry and senior researcher Matthew Iasiello, Be Well Co, which was launched in 2021 as the first spin-out company from SAHMRI (the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute).
Monique is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and prior to SAHMRI, spent her career at professional services firm EY. Monique was named in The Advertiser's 2022 Top 40 under 40 rising stars of SA.
